This year has been anything but normal. When you started dreaming of how to spend your summer, you probably didn’t expect to be in the middle of pandemic, with travel restrictions and a whole barrel full of uncertainty.
If your plans to travel overseas to some glorious sun-drenched beach resort are in crisis, staying in the UK may seem like the better option. You don’t need to have a staycation – let’s be honest, you are probably sick of your home and want a change of scenery. We admit you can’t always guarantee the British weather, but you can still have a holiday of a lifetime against a stunning backdrop as well as enjoying a cocktail or two! Our team at Sure have put our heads together to put a list of our favourite ideas for that unexpected UK holiday.
The best beaches
Although Burton and Derby are wonderful, many us want to feel sand under our feet and hear the sound of crashing waves – you don’t just want any beach, you want the best. According to
The Beach Guide, West Sands in St. Andrews is one of the best beaches in the UK. Voted for by the sites users, this two-mile long sandy beach is the largest of the beaches in St. Andrews, and it may surprise you to learn that it is one of the driest and sunniest places in Britain.
But where to stay? You have a wealth of choice, from welcoming B&Bs to elegant spa hotels, and even beautiful self-catering options close to the beach.
Hot tub
Holidays are often about treating ourselves to luxuries we may not have at home. Now we know that many people in Burton and Derby have a hot tub, but there is something so completely relaxing and indulgent about enjoying a hot hub in the most stunning of surroundings. Whether you’re looking for a romantic break or a family get together, there are a number of companies with a variety of hot tub holidays on offer, such as
Forrest Holidays,
Cottages.com, and
Center Parcs.
On the road
Why stay in one place when you can go on a little tour? All those places you said you will visit one day, why not get some of them ticked off your list? Motorhomes are a great way of having a mobile holiday, plan your trip as soon as you can so you can get a pitch at your preferred sites, but just think about how many fantastic places you will be able to see. Remember you can also take advantage of local restaurants who are utilising the government voucher scheme.
In the stars
If you’re looking for something completely different, how about sleeping amongst the leaves and under the stars? Unique glamping holidays such as those in treehouses are a fantastic way of embracing nature, enjoying the outdoors and experiencing something completely different. How do you find such wonderful holidays? Try
Canopy and Stars, they also have locations across Europe.
Travel by steam
From the puffing and hissing of the steam, imagine climbing board one of our country’s many heritage railways. Relax as the beautiful scenery passes you by, whether you go on a day trip or a specialist holiday, they are certainly a delight and a wonderful experience – in fact, you could enjoy one of the greatest railway journeys in the world. That is how the Jacobite Railway is described, as it takes you on an 84-mile round trip from Fort William to Mallaig.
West Coast Railways have a number of rail tours but you can find numerous experiences across the UK.
Waterways
We’ve looked at travelling by rail, air is problematic, so that leads us to water and the fantastic holiday options that our waterways offer. Whether you’d prefer a yacht to explore or the romantic notions of a narrowboat are more to your liking, these floating homes provide comfort as well as a base from which to discover a wealth of countryside locations.
Get moving
Don’t think that your hopes for a summer getaway are dashed, we hope our team at Sure Sales & Lettings have given you some fantastic options to consider.
