Things to consider when buying a home near a school in Burton Upon Trent

The search for your dream home has begun. Schools may be a consideration in your search, but is buying a house on the same street as a school a good or a bad thing?  There are many things to consider when buying a house in Burton upon Trent and although the proximity to a school may not be a priority, it’s worth thinking about the pros and cons of its location before you commit to buy.

The school run
If you’re an active member of the morning school run you’ll know that it’s an eventful task to undertake.  Being close to a school will mean you have the luxury of walking in every morning, that dose of fresh air will do you all good as you skip and talk all the way to the school gates.  Even though you’ll have the benefit of having a stroll, many parents will be driving, which means there will be heavy traffic, parking issues and hectic patches when kids are being dropped off and picked up.  But remember, this is only at specific times of the day, which may not even coincide with your commute and thus may never impact on your life.

Can be a little noisy
Kids are not known for being quiet, especially when it comes to play time, therefore you have to expect a certain level of noise.  Yet there is so much joy in hearing the laughter and play of children that it can be uplifting.  If you work from home and your prospective house is close to the playground it could be something you need to consider.  Also remember, this is only in term time, so for many weeks of the year the normal calm around your home will not be affected.

Safe places
Schools typically tend to be located in safe neighbourhoods in Burton upon Trent, with parks and green spaces close by.  This creates many opportunities to live a healthier lifestyle with safer places to run, cycle and play.  Speed zones around schools will slow down the traffic, which can only be a good thing, and there will more than likely be additional crossings, making life for you and your family safer.

Good investment
Because of the desirable location of the house and the beauty of the neighbourhood, house prices can be higher than in other local areas, so you could get more value for money a little further afield.  That being said, it also means that when the time comes to sell your property, you will find your house will hold its value, which is only a positive thing.

Gives independence
When you and your family live close to a school there will come a time when you’ll be able to give your child a little more independence.  Imagine their pride when your child walks to school on their own for the first time; although it’s just part of growing up, giving them this opportunity sooner will give them more confidence and a sense of empowerment going forward.

Weigh up the pros and cons
As with all decisions when looking for a new home, you need to weigh up the pros and the cons to ensure you make the right decision for you and your family.  There are so many benefits to living close to a school it’s important that you don’t draw any hasty conclusions before giving it some serious consideration.
