What To Do If Your Boiler Stops Working in the Cold Weather

Freezing temperatures are here again. And that could mean frozen pipes – one of the biggest reasons for boiler breakdowns.

If your heating stops working when the weather turns cold, try following the simple steps below. It could save you waiting for one of our expert contractors to arrive.

How to thaw a frozen pipe

  • Find your boiler’s waste pipe outside
  • Place a hot water bottle on the pipe
  • Or pour hot (but not boiling) water over the pipe
  • Once the pipe has thawed, your boiler should work again

Watch the video below from British Gas with more hints and tips including: how to spot frozen pipes and how to deal with a leak or flood.

Of course, we’ll be happy for one of our contractors to attend to resolve the issue – but cold snaps mean we get very busy and sometimes our waiting times get longer.

Any issues can be reported through your PropertyFile account (if you can't access your account or don't think you have one, let us know, we'll get you set up)

We don’t want anyone to be without heating and hot water longer than they need to be!
